Welcome to FOSS United’s June newsletter. We’ve officially hit the halfway mark of 2026, keeping you company through the historic heatwaves. Last month, three students forced CBSE to admit serious vulnerabilities in its systems, a fresh reminder that essential public infrastructure cannot stay behind proprietary walls.

June ahead: A lot more of IndiaFOSS, a few exciting campaigns and more of nurturing and supporting this itch to pry things open for public good.

Highlights

Brewing IndiaFOSS | CFPs close in 10 days!

Marinating? Simmering? (and other food-based metaphors.) You get the gist. IndiaFOSS action is in full swing.

Maintainer May Rewind

Every week through May, we asked maintainers from across the country to pen down what it takes to keep the lights on in Indian open source. We hear them vent about the good, the bad, and prop ideas and resources as keepers of the digital commons.

May is the new June? Because we aren’t done yet with the May Maintainer meetups! See you on 13th, Mumbai?

Results for FOSSHack are out!

Yes yes, they are finally out! After an entire month of building, debugging and lamenting, FOSSHack 2026 has its winners.

Hugs to all the participants. Building something real and fun in a month is no small thing. Thank you to all the community partner projects, mentors and judges for helping us see this through. We will meet again!
